What are the causes to leave old methods of agricultural systems?

What are the reasons for abandoning old farming methods?

There are many reasons for adopting new methods of production and ultimately, the choice to do so will depend on the farming conditions. The first and foremost reason is to increase the efficiency of land use; It is generally accepted that modern farming methods are more effective than those of the early 20th century. The advent of manure spreaders and tillers produced by tractors improved the method of land use. The use of chemical fertilizers made the crops grow so much that it became easier to harvest and reduced the required manpower per hectare. In addition, mechanization of processing, storage and distribution of goods increased the level of production and allowed farmers to grow more crops in a given area.

The use of tractors, tractors with disc harrows, and a variety of motorized equipment is often referred to as "modern farming." It is a combination of new methods of working the soil with more and better fertilizers and pesticides that has made more production possible.

However, not all farmers accepted the change. The “old farmers” have largely failed in their efforts to maintain traditional methods of work, and a number of reasons for this can be put forward.

Traditional farming

It is difficult to compare the method of a farmer who has worked on the land for many years with the new methods introduced by the modern farmer. The farmer needs to establish what he wants to achieve and how he is going to achieve it. A farmer who wants to maintain his traditional working methods will want to maintain high productivity with low production, high production method.

Older farmers are using the land to achieve this, but when new technologies were introduced, they could not maintain traditional methods due to lack of financial resources.

These are “old farmers” who have had great difficulty adapting to the use of fertilizers and pesticides, are unwilling to change their methods of work, and have difficulty accepting advice. Instead of considering the long-term effects of such changes on the environment, they often look at the economic side of the changes.

There has been a gradual transition to using higher and lower levels of inputs to get better yields, but “older farmers” are not ready to change their ways of working for the good of the environment.

High input, low output

"New farmers" have chosen to use less fertilizers and pesticides to achieve higher productivity. When this is achieved, the best use of land can be made and the “new farmer” can get his best financial return while trying to work for the betterment of the environment.

There is no doubt that the soil is in a very bad condition in the areas of the world where "old farmers" live. In parts of the world where "new farmers" live, the soil has never been so bad.

If we “older farmers” can start using better farming methods, the better side of the land can be used to produce better quality produce.

New farming with "old farmers"

The new farmer has to work hard to get a good financial return from the land, and the required inputs must be used in such a way that they will not damage the land.

These are “old farmers” who need help trying to do the right thing to get good quality produce on the land. If they need to try to use less manure, or animal manure, they can try to use less chemical in their own way.

The new farmer needs to find the right balance between good and bad use in relation to the environment. It needs to be used for good and bad in a way that does not harm the environment. Soil is the only part of the environment that will survive and the soil itself cannot speak.

If the “old farmers” are working according to a different plan than the new farmer’s plan, the soil will deteriorate.

So, the new farmer will have to help the “old farmers” by working according to their different scheme and using the best quality inputs so as not to damage the soil or the product.

We want to help each other and to help each other we have to work towards making the best use of the land.

new methods for farming

I’ve written about the reasons to adopt new methods for farming before, but I want to highlight two reasons that are the most important. The first reason is that many of us see the way we farm today and think that that is how we must continue. The second is the reality of our future, or lack of it, if we don’t change our methods.

The first reason is that I’ve heard people say that they don’t want to change. They may be afraid that they’ll get less money or have to work more. It may be that they don’t want to lose what they have, or that they’re not comfortable with the idea of becoming a “hobby farmer” or starting their own small farm. While these things are true, the real reasons I’ve heard people say they don’t want to change are much deeper and more related to our identity than our pocketbooks.

The second reason is because we need to change. The more we do what we’ve done in the past, the more likely we are to fail in the future. Farming is changing now at the same time that we are creating more farmers, which means that a great many of us will find themselves in a position where we have to leave what we’ve been doing.

The first step is to understand where we’ve been. Because we have been farm-farmers for a long time, it is important to ask what worked well and didn’t work well in our past. This will help us figure out the things that can be improved and the things that need to be changed. We need to figure out what went right and what went wrong, in order to create our new reality.

Here’s what I think has worked well:

Agronomic knowledge.

We’ve become much more reliant on agronomic knowledge, because farmers are not used to working in soils that have different nutrients and soil types. The result is that we have more information about soil chemistry and soil tests, than any other generation of farmers. But, having knowledge is not the same as understanding how it all applies. Agronomy has become a profession, which is great, but there is much we don’t know about it and this is something that is changing.

Farming knowledge.

I think we’ve done a good job in providing the necessary education for our community. For a long time the farm equipment dealers, local seed dealers, local feed dealers, local fertilizer dealers, and local farm supply companies were the folks that made it possible for the farmer to succeed. These companies were good at providing the necessary information and materials that we would need to put into action the management practices that we had learned over the years. Unfortunately, with the increase in the internet, there has been a shift in how farming information is shared. There has been a large increase in the amount of farmers who are relying on the internet to get their information. This puts all the responsibility for the information on the shoulders of the farmer, which is a really tricky situation.

Access to technology.

While the internet has allowed us to share more information, I think we’ve fallen behind in how much information we share with each other. We all have access to computer systems, but I’d argue that we’re not using them to their maximum potential. I’m talking about the use of mobile technology here, which allows us to upload files to each other instantly and to have the information we want to share available on our phones. With that kind of access, I think there would be a lot of farmers who would begin to learn more about their practice.

The next step is for us to identify the things that didn’t work as well as the things that did, and we should work to implement these into the farm practices that we do follow.

How to become a better farmer?

This year, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has released an updated guide on how to become a better farmer. If you’re interested in learning more, you can view it here.

A lot of the content focuses on the farmer as the business, so I’m looking forward to seeing if this year’s edition of the guide shows the farmer in a different light. I’m interested to see how it compares with the original version.

I’ve been thinking about the next step to take for a while now, and it was a little easier for me to take it this year. It’s taken a while to realise that I was trying to solve everything on my own, and I need to reach out and build my network of knowledge around me. I’m not interested in becoming a “big dog” in this industry, but I’d like to take the next step in getting my name out there. That may take more than one person to help me.

I’m excited to see how I can use technology to reach out to others who may have something to offer and build relationships with them. There are a lot of smart people in this industry who may have some ideas on what’s working for them, but haven’t had an opportunity to connect with other people in this industry.

Networking, knowledge sharing and finding the right people can all be done on your social media platform
